Garrick multi-storey car park closed for approx 25 weeks from 11March 2013
Refurbishment works to the Garrick multi-storey car park that began last year with upgrades to the lifts are due to continue this spring.The next phase will require more substantial work requiring complete closure of the car park.

Hereford Chess Club's 50th centeniary coincides with a painting's 200th birthday.
Founded on November 29th 1812, the back of the painting below, called 'Hereford Chess Club' shows possibly the first chess club outside London in the UK. The painting is on display at Hereford Museum.

A fun chess tournament organized by Alan Leary, was been held in the museum over several days, and won by Roger Aris with 4½/5. Hopefully a few spectators will want to come to the Herdsman on Monday evening and play a few games of chess.

Worcester Chess Congress July 2012
Two Hereford players played in this congress. Stephen Katona won the U135 section with 4/5 points. All five of his opponents were part of a six way tie for second place each scoring 4/5. Alan Papier scored a very respectable 3/5 points in the Major (U160) section.

Hereford Castle chess congress 24-25 March 2012
Three players from Hereford played in this national tournament held at the Green Dragon hotel.
Paul Barker did fantastically well in the Open (>160) with five draws against higher rated opponents, the highest rated 199.
Stephen Katona found himself the surprised winner of the U135 section and joint third in the U160 section with 3/5. Kieran Lapin also battled against some higher rated opponents to achieve a respectable 2/5 points.

Hereford Castle Chess Congress 25-26March 2011
Three Hereford players tried their luck with Kieran Lapin winning the Minor U120 section with an outstanding 4/5 points. An inexperienced Stephen Katona crashed and burned with only ½/5 in the open (>160) section but enjoyed himself, and learnt a lot. Paul Barker scored a respectable 2½/5 in the open.
